8:33 pm - Help?!

Ok, hi, I'm new here...very obviously. I was really hoping for some help. I put a rather involved post under another one...I didn't know how to post, just reply, lol.
Basically, Pagan/Wiccan really interests me and I was wondering if anyone could give me some info, or point me in the right direction to get some info...

I've been told that when working with Artemis it helps to do some archery. I was wondering if anyone here would agree with that. Also how does it help?

8:38 pm - The Virgin.

When reading [the Artemis] myth, one should not be deluded into any coy notions of chastity or virginity. The concept of a 'virgin' goddess goes back to a time when female deities had far greater autonomy and power than under the later, more patriarchal order; they were 'virgins' because they existed and created quite independently of any male principle.

Proud to be a virgin =)

9:28 pm - Searching for a hymn

A long time ago, I found a hymn to Artemis on the internet that I really loved. I saved it for a long time, but then drifted away from spirituality and didn't think about it for a long time. Recently, I remembered the hymn, and tried to find it, to realize that I have no idea what I did with my saved copy, and I can't find it on the internet anymore. I can't really remember any specific words from it, but I remember what struck me was that it used the arrows of artemis as a metaphor for achieving one's goals in life. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Does someone have a copy? I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me find this.

6:40 am - Question?

I've always had this fascination with fraternal twins. Always. So I was bound to ask her *the* question: Do you mind if I associate with your brother? The shocker: She agreed. Wasn't expecting that one at all. But she made a comment about "You're MINE, and I'm going to let him know in no uncertain terms, and you need to let him know as well." I was confused, until I met him.

And the diference between the two is very marked. I'm used to Artemis being almost catlike in my life, always watching from the shadows, always guiding me in her own way. She comes forward when I need her, and she gets very aggressive when she has to. But mostly, she's a guide.

But Apollo? Oh lord. There's only one deity I've worked with who was a worse flirt, and that was Loki. (Highly reccomend him, too, if you're in need of some serious wake-up-calls.) And if you get sidetracked, he pouts and gets offended because you're not paying attention to him. But he's very brilliant, and a very accomplished musician. (It was like the music came from far off, so faint, but so beautiful.) He's a decent conversationalist, too, once you learn that he is a god and you are a mortal and the difference between the two positions.

So my question is: Has anyone else worked with both twins, and what were your experiences? Have you ever worked with both at the same time, or were they separate like my experiences? I'm interested.

Thanks in advance!

Blessed be! Is this community still active? I would nestle amongst the Mother's children if so. Shall I introduce formally?

I thought you might be interested in the Chapel of God the Mother. It is devoted to the Mother, of course, but they also recognise the Daughter or Virgin Maiden. You'll find it here: http://aristasia.co.uk/GodtheMother.html

9:05 pm - Southeastern Hellenic Group Forming -- crosspost

Sorry in advance for the spamming, I am just trying to get the word out.

Anyway, for any of you that are interested in or practicising the Hellenic/Greek religion and you live in Southeast United States, I invite you to join either (or both) of the two groups we have created:

The Yahoo Group:

And a sister Livejournal group (for those so inclined):

We are a group hoping to bring together Hellenes of the Southeastern United States. The actual explicit intentions of the group are still defining themselves, but we hope that this can grow to be a good place for community, networking, possible meet-ups, discussion, and the exchange of knowledge between those interested in or working the path of Greek religious spirituality (be it Hellenic Reconstructionism to other various forms of Hellenic polytheism). We also hope to perhaps one day do ritual(s) together as well, even perhaps form a Damos. We shall see.

Thanks and we hope to see you!

2:54 pm - A poem about Lady Artemis...

I thought I would introduce myself by posting a poem I wrote about Artemis. I just recently discovered my path in Paganism and I am soooo excited to find Home!

She calls me
in my dreams
between blades of grass
a voice upon the wind
a symphony sweet
My Lady

I run to her
underneath the stars
a white and lovely face
luring me away
back to the chase
I am hers

1:12 am - Whoa....

I've had four people tell me now that I remind them, in looks and personality traits, of Artemis. Not as independent, but I had one woman looking at me with deja vu.

Has this ever happened to anyone else, I wonder? I mean, I know they were complimenting me, but I'm slightly weirded out by the fact that it's multiple people saying this. That and the fact I'll never be as cool and... magnificent? I dunno... grasping for superlatives here...

But yeah, have any of you ever been on the receiving end of this comment/compliment?

While I've loved reading the introductions that everyone's posted, I haven't seen many posts yet in this community that stray from the "hi, I'm so-and-so" type yet. I'm hoping to get the ball rolling, I guess, by posting this here.

"Artemis qualities appear early. Usually an Artemis baby is the one who looks absorbingly at new objects, who is active rather than passive. People often comment on this capacity to concentrate on a self-selected task: 'She has an amazing power of concentration for a two-year-old,' or 'She's one stubborn kid,' or 'Be careful what you promise her, she's got a mind like an elephant; she won't forget - she'll hold you to it.' The Artemis penchant for exploring new territory usually begins when she manages to get up and over the crib railing, out of the playpen, and into the bigger world.

Artemis has a tendency to feel strongly about her causes and principles. She may have come to the defense of someone smaller or may fervently assert, 'That's not fair!' before embarking on some campaign to right a wrong. Artemis girls brought up in households that favor sons - giving the boys more priviledges or expecting them to do fewer household chores - do not meekly accept this inequality as a 'given.' The budding feminist is often first glimpsed as the little sister demanding equality."

-From Jean Shinoda Bolen's Goddesses in Everywoman: A New Psychology of Women

Thoughts, anyone?

11:08 am - Intro

H'lo all, intro time, I'll keep it short so as to not appear preachy.

I have always felt a special connection to Artemis/Diana, I would consider her to be my patron deity. Especially since I deal a lot with animals of all kinds, wild or no. My name here is a mixture between Rhea, Celtic Huntress, and Artemis, Greek Huntress. Sometimes I have these Dr. Doolittle moments where I speak to the animals and understand them.

I don't know if any of you read The Immortals series by Tamora Peirce, but the main character, Diane, had what was known as Wild Magic, it was super rare, it allowed her to talk to/understand/transform into animals of all kinds. I feel like I can do that sometimes at least, in my dreams I can.

Anyhow, it's nice to find a place with people who have the same interests as me.

12:13 pm - hello all

Hi! I'm new to this community and making the obligatory introductory post.

I'm 23, bisexual, and Wiccan, and Artemis was always one of the goddesses that I felt closest to, even when I was a child and still identified as Christian at that point. She loved to be out in the woods (as did I) found the idea of marriage and associated subservience to men abhorrent (as did I) cherished her independence (as did I) and was associated with the moon (which I loved)

Ten or fifteen years later, I've become a self admitted nympho, I've had to move away from the woods of my childhood, and I'm married and I have a daughter now. But I still love being in the forest and natural places, I still stand in awe of the beauty and mystery of the moon, I still cherish what independence I have retained and strive for more of it in my day to day life, and I still find the aspects of some people's marriage which involve handing over your freedom and self determination to another pretty repugnant. Fortunately I've also found out it doesn't always have to be that way.

In short, although my life has changed, I still am quite devoted to Artemis, possibly more so now than ever. And I named my firstborn daughter after her. ;) She's just like I was at that age- she's very independent, and she loves to say goodnight to the moon.

I look forward to being a part of this community and getting to know everyone here.
